Three Years of Work...To Pave a Road?

In this country, things tend to move at a slower pace than the rest of life elsewhere in the the world. Much of this pace is set by a national addiction to qat (see earlier post), crazy work day schedules (a rest time in the afternoon), lack of quality controls, and no real regulations or accountability to make sure that work is done efficiently and in a timely manner.

This is the road that the center which I teach English is on. The center was opened a little over three years ago in a relatively newly developed area. There were many promises that the road would be paved. Occasionally, there would be signs of an attempt to prepare the road, but nothing would ever happen.

Six months ago, we finally got a paved road! It took them months of moving dirt and advice from one of the teachers at our center before they finally did it. We now have a paved road which means that when it rains we and our students don't have to wade through the mud to get to the center.
